1. Who we are
The Wisdom Library shares hard-earned career wisdom through online courses, live events and a learning community, including Job Search Wisdom and Career Wisdom. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have.
The Wisdom Library Ltd ("The Wisdom Library", "we", "us") is the data controller for your personal data. We are a company registered in England and Wales, number 16041485, with our registered office at 10 Park House, Bristol, BS1 5HX. Our ICO registration number is ZC274720.
Contact us about your data: [email protected] We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer because the law does not require one for a business of our type and size, but the contact above will reach the person responsible for data protection.
2. What personal data we collect
We collect only what we need to deliver our courses, events and community. Most of it comes directly from you.

Information you choose to share. A CV or career story can sometimes reveal sensitive information, such as health, ethnicity or religion. We do not ask for it and we recommend you leave it out. If you include it anyway, we use it only to give you the feedback you asked for, and we treat it as confidential.
3. How we use your data and our lawful basis
UK GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for every use of your data. Ours are set out below.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have balanced our interests against your rights and you can object at any time (see section 8). We never use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we never sell it.
4. Events, recordings and marketing
Recorded sessions. We record live events so registered attendees who could not join can watch afterwards. We tell you at the start of every session that it is being recorded. If you would rather not appear, keep your camera and microphone off, use a first name or initials as your display name, and ask questions in the chat. Recordings are shared only with people who registered for that event, unless we have your separate consent to use your contribution more widely.
Email marketing. We only send marketing emails if you have opted in. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop them. Event joining details, receipts and course access emails are service messages, so you will receive them even if you have not opted in to marketing.
Contacts from other businesses. If you heard about us through another organisation, that organisation sent the invitation itself, to people who had agreed to hear from it. We receive your details only when you register with us directly.
5. Who we share your data with
We use trusted suppliers (processors) to run our business. They may only use your data on our instructions and must keep it secure under a written contract.

We may also share data with professional advisers, such as our accountant, and with authorities where the law requires it. We never sell your data or share it with recruitment businesses, including Signature Recruitment and Olive Search.
International transfers. Some suppliers store data outside the UK, for example in the USA. When that happens, we make sure it is protected by a UK adequacy decision (such as the UK-US data bridge for certified companies) or by the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. Contact us for details of the safeguard that applies.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as we need it, then delete or anonymise it securely.

7. Security, cookies and children
Security. We protect your data with measures including secure, password-protected systems with two-factor authentication, access limited to people who need it, and suppliers chosen for their security standards. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will report it to the ICO within 72 hours where required, and tell you without undue delay if the risk is high.
Cookies. Our website uses essential cookies to work properly. We use [analytics / advertising] cookies only if you agree through our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time.
Children. Our courses and events are designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has registered, contact us and we will delete their details.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete
Delete your data in certain circumstances
Restrict how we use your data in certain circumstances
Object to our use of your data based on legitimate interests, and to marketing at any time
Move data you gave us to another organisation (data portability)
Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it, without affecting what we did before
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. It is free, and we will respond within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first.
Complaints. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first at [email protected] so we can put it right. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and keep you updated. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
9. Changes to this policy
We review this policy regularly and update it when our services, suppliers or the law change. The latest version is always on our website, with the date it was last updated. If we make a significant change, we will let you know by email.
